GSHQ - GYMSHARK

From 2016 I worked for the UK's fastest growing online retailer Gymshark, a sports apparel company that placed number 1 in 2016 for the Sunday Times Virgin fast track 100. More recently the brand was valued at £1 billion after securing a deal with US investor General Atlantic. Gymshark has seen rapid and successful growth since its inception in 2012 and I am immensely proud to have been part of the journey with the brand and witness this success first hand. During my time at Gymshark my role evolved as the company’s growth accelerated, working initially as part of the trade team, transitioning later into a special projects manager role. In late 2017 I was tasked with project managing one of the brands most iconic property projects to date, the design and build of their brand new Headquarters GSHQ, which is now a world class office space based in Blythe Valley, Solihull.

Reporting into Executive Chairman Paul Richardson, as the internal Project Manager I was responsible for researching, costing and procuring all internal design elements ranging from the filter water systems used in the communal tea point areas, TRX fitness rig used in the dedicated 'SWEAT' area, ‘chill out’ furniture and sleeping pods in the dedicated 'CHILL' zone, to name a few. For this project Gymshark partnered with design/build company Oktra, specialists in office design/fit out and property and facilities expert Angie Bromley. A main responsibility was to ensure smooth communications between all partners at every stage of the project, from design inception through to onsite delivery.

 

Key responsibilities of the role were;

- Capturing the needs for each department and relaying this back to the design & build company, ensuring all design elements were included in the scope of works.

- Liaising with the IT department for all tech needs, from AV, IT to security access systems.

- Overcoming daily challenges within the critical path.

- Managing sub-contractors for scheduled works, continually liaising with the site manager to ensure the programme remained on time and within budget.

- Holding regular update meetings with Paul Richardson, founder Ben Francis and the design team to ensure the brand vision was at the forefront of every decision we made.

- Incorporated into the programme was the relocation of the current head office, this involved major planning and preparation to ensure there was no disruption to the brands business as usual. The staff head count back in April 2018 was at 150, two years since opening their world class HQ, the number has now grown to an impressive 500.


GSHQ won "Best office Interior Award April 2018", soon after GSHQ opened I successfully project managed a 'phase 2' fit out. Reviewing space plans, repositioning functions, adding additional data and lighting to ensure sufficient space, allowing for the company's future growth.

After the success of GSHQ, and with the brands continuing talent acquisition and company growth, Gymshark aquired a second property to add to their portfolio, a 60,000 sq ft warehouse on the Blythe Valley, the same location as GSHQ. Again working with design/build experts Oktra, the vision for this building was to create a multi use space, as an extension of their headquarters to allow for this current and future growth. Gymsharks family values and love of lifting, combined together to create GSLC, a world class Lifting Club for all employees to utilise as part of their company reward scheme. In addition to creating a world class gym, the brand wanted to incorporate a variety of additional functions such as their state of the art Innovation hub complete with seamless knit machines, 100 seat Auditorium, sound proof App studio, Creative studios for film/photography, Event space and additional office space to allow the staff to work from GSLC. 

 

Reporting into Executive Chairman Paul Richardson, as the internal Project Manager, I was responsible for the coordination between the brand and design/build company Oktra. Researching, costing and procuring their state of the art “lifting club” gym equipment was one of the main objectives ensuring all brand elements were considered at each stage. At every stage it was important to ensure all planning/design/build elements tied into the internal programme. 

The opening of GSLC was a great success and another iconic moment for the brand. The company now utilises both GSHQ and GSLC, continuing to create amazing brand content and products.

GYMSHARK HEAD OFFICE - LONDON - PR

 

With the need for the Gymshark PR function to have a London residence I was tasked with the project management of a small scale design/fit out, liasing with building contractors and suppliers managing a successful project, delivering on time and within budget.

GYMSHARK WAREHOUSE DILAPIDATIONS - BROMSGROVE, WORCESTERSHIRE

 

Responsible for the successful delapse of two of Gymsharks warehouse units. Dealing with the landlord and building contractors to organise any alterations needed to return the building back to the management company.
